The Mazama is truly a do-it-all base layer hoodie. It's a fantastic sun hoodie for warm weather, but just as much a fantastic base layer for winter adventures. The Mazama is designed to handle just about any conditions, which is, a thru-hike. Freezing nights, hot days, rain and intense sun, it excells in all conditions.
Hand-made in Oregon using USA-made Polartec Power Wool 150gsm fabric. A unique bi-compartment knit puts thermoregulating and antimicrobial merino wool against your skin, with a polyester outer shell for durablity, fast drying and a fantastic cooling effect in the heat. Get the best properties of both fabric types without blending.
The hood is super deep to give very good top AND side sun protection to the face. The loose balaclava-style hood also keeps the neck protected. The hood is LOOSE enough to still have great air flow but not so loose that it blows off your head in the wind.
Extra long sleeves for better hand protection. Thumb tabs instead of thumb loops, to keep your thumb tucked under the protection of the fabric. No more sunburned thumbs! All flatlock seams for next-to-skin comfort.
Here is the really fun part: You get to design it! Pick your body, hood and sleeve colors. Be conservative or go wild! Your choice.
I live in sun hoodies for most of the year. When I say live in them, I mean like it only comes off of me like 2 hours a week for laundry and showering. This garment has to be able to do everything, be anything and do it with comfort and style. It must provide excellent sun protection. It must be durable, handle a wide range of weather conditions, be easily laundered, stain resistant, antimicrobial, breathable, moisture wicking and fast drying. Check to all of this.

I was going to give up on sun hoodies all together because they either didn’t stay on my head and/or the would limit my field of vision. Mostly, I found the hoods annoying. That is not the case with the Mazama sun hoodie. My Mazama lasted 1400+ miles on the CDT. It stayed on my head very nicely, even in very high winds. It was so comfy, I often forgot I even had the hood up on my head. Thanks so much for making this incredible sun hoodie!
CAN RECOMMEND! This sun hoodie performed so well on a hike up the South Sister this summer where I was out all day in hot weather. I love the unique thumb tabbed sleeves that fit my long arms. The hood is plenty big to cover my big ponytail and still be comfy but also looks great when it's down. Sun protection but also acted as a welcome barrier to the hordes of mosquitos. This shop demonstrates friendly and fabulous communication, and I'm looking out here on what our family buys next!
